End-of-studies project
with real-world impact.

Nrawnek was my end of studies project. It's aimed at helping cancer caregivers in Algeria to more easily access home care medical equipment. Cancer is a disease that impacts both the patient and their loved ones. Caregivers of cancer patients are overwhelmed and lack support. This project aims to find a way to lighten the burden on caregivers by providing them with assistance.

Lead designer,
solo.

As the lead designer of the project, I supervised all aspects of the discovery process, from research and ideation to design and testing. I was supported by several professionals and associations working to combat cancer and assist caregivers in France and Algeria.

Problems & Highlights

From the research and the field study, we can conclude that in Algeria, rather than the classic caregiver model, we find a model of family caregivers. The family caregivers face many problems:

Caregivers and families bear the complete burden of the patient, who mostly prefer home care, which is not financially accessible.

So, the main issue is: How to facilitate access to home care equipment in a sustainable and reliable way for Algerian caregiving families?

— Caregivers needs
Have access to care equipment
Know all their available resources
Have information on how to use them properly
— My goals
Facilitate access to home care equipment
Bring together all actors in the sector for the caregivers
Inform caregivers about good and bad practices of the equipment they will be using

A three-pillar
ecosystem.

Beyond a simple marketplace, Nrawnek is designed as a complete ecosystem to address the full chain of needs — from access to equipment, through reconditioning, to maintenance on the ground.

1
Nrawnek
A platform providing information to caregivers and facilitating access to home care equipment — to buy, rent, or give away.
2
Recovery Branch
Create a dedicated branch for the recovery and reconditioning of second-hand medical equipment.
3
N'sagam
Create and coordinate a mobile maintenance team that travels across Algeria to assist caregivers on-site.
Step 1
Use the network of the Nrawnek service to collect used home care equipment
Step 2
Create a branch for the recovery and reconditioning of spare parts
Step 3
Propose these spare parts to maintenance services of medical equipment in hospitals, associations, and individuals
1
Create and coordinate a mobile team for the maintenance of home care equipment
2
Outfit trucks for the mobile maintenance team
3
Offer opportunities for people who want to join our maintenance team
4
Travel the roads of Algeria to assist caregivers on-site

to high-fidelity.

Starting from the information architecture, I mapped out all user flows before moving into wireframes and then the final interface.

A peer-to-peer
equipment platform.

The solution involves a mobile application where caregivers can post home care equipment they no longer need to sell or give away to other caregivers. This platform would be specialized for home care equipment to facilitate the search process as much as possible for caregivers.

What I learned.

Throughout the research phase and the project, I received support from healthcare professionals, cancer patients, association representatives, and particularly caregivers. Nonetheless, I would have preferred to co-create the project with them, involving them more deeply in the process, especially the caregivers.
